IT IS USED IN EYE SURGERIES
Prof. Ziya Kapran, MD, is a prominent surgeon in Turkey specialized in retinal, vitreus and macular diseases and surgery. A device he developed for eye surgeries and patented in his own name is now used in eye surgeries throughout the world.
THE DEVICE IS SOLD WORLDWIDE
Prof. Kapran’s patented invention was launched in 2013 at a special meeting on retina organized by the American Academy of Ophthalmology which holds the majority of American ophthalmologists as members. Later, the device was released to the market at the beginning of 2014. Oil Removal Cannula Kapran is currently sold throughout the world by MedOne Surgical Inc., a U.S.-based company specialized in vitreoretinal surgical devices.
THE INVENTION PROCESS LASTED 7 YEARS
Oil Removal Cannula Kapran took 7 years to develop during which Prof. Kapran worked with 3 multinational medical companies as well as a team of engineers and physicians. Oil Removal Cannula Kapran provides an easy and fast approach in retinal surgeries that require detailed work in a very narrow area.
THE DEVICE EXPEDITES THE SURGICAL PROCESS
Prof. Kapran explained the use of the device as follows: “We use this disposable device in eye surgeries. During vitrectomy, we intraocularly inject 50% silicone which should later be removed. This device enables fast removal of the silicone injected through sutureless incision in fine surgeries.”
